The general inference problem on astrophysical populations from large catalogs is a complex task. In gravitational-wave astronomy, developing robust, flexible and rapid hierarchical inference schemes has become a very active field of research.
In this Focus week, we gather researchers developing promising population inference techniques, alongside experts in applied statistics. We aim at consolidating the gravitational-wave community statistical landscape, broadening it with recent developments in applied statistics, and establishing a set of shared tools to quantify stability, faithfulness and biases of inference algorithms.
In this workshop, a first of its kind, we offer the GW community direct interaction with experts in applied statistics through three daily focus sessions. The schedule is designed to stimulate frequent discussion sessions following short-presentations from early career scientists and a limited number of invited review talks.
