We are looking for a talented and highly-motivated candidate for a post-doctoral position in Quantum Biosensing at CNR-INO the National Institute of Optics and LENS the European Laboratory for Non-linear Spectroscopy, in Florence, Italy, in the framework of the Horizon Europe Project “MUQUABIS – Multiscale quantum bio-imaging and spectroscopy”.
The successful candidate will join the Quantum Diamond Nanoengineering (QDN) research group of Dr. Nicole Fabbri. The QDN research group focuses on development of advanced quantum control tools to address and manipulate solid-state spin-based qubit systems, for fundamental studies of quantum physics and quantum information science and for building quantum devices, in particular nanoscale quantum sensors.
Project activity:
The successful candidate will be involved in an interdisciplinary project – with research being conducted at the crossroad between physics, quantum technologies, and biophysics.
The project activity will be aimed at the implementation of a hybrid quantum sensor, integrating the unique combination of sensitivity and spatial resolution of a quantum magnetometer based on Nitrogen-Vacancy (NV) centers in diamond, with advanced optical imaging for electrophysiology, to carry out the investigation of the magnetic field associated with the electrical activity of cardiac monolayers.
The activity will benefit of the large community of researchers and fellows working on different aspect of quantum technologies and biophysics at CNR-INO and LENS.
Background:
Potential candidates are expected to have completed their PhD in physics, quantum technologies, photonics, biomedical engineering, or related topics, with very good or excellent grade (the official degree at the grant starting will be mandatory).
Experience in one or more of the following fields will be positively valued:
Experimental quantum optics and microscopy,
Solid-state spin physics,
Data & image analysis.
We expect solid written and verbal communication skills in English, and strong desire and ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment.
