I am Alberto Privitera, a material scientist passionate about spins and light!

Currently, I am a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor at the Department of Industrial Engineering, University of Florence. After completing my PhD in Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Padova in 2018, I carried out research at the University of Oxford (2017–2020), the University of Turin (2021), the University of Florence (2022–2023), and Northwestern University (2023–2025), including several shorter research stays in other laboratories along the way.

My main research interest is the photophysics of spin processes in organic molecules and materials. I combine EPR and optical spectroscopies to address a variety of open challenges, including solar energy conversion in organic photovoltaics and the comprehension of the subtle connection between spin, chirality, and light for quantum information science.

In my free time, I enjoy climbing, mountaineering, and playing jazz drums and percussions.
