Who I am
I am the leader of the Lear's Macaw Research and Conservation Group, a multidisciplinary research initiative focused on the endangered Lear’s Macaw, an endemic species of the caatinga biome, a tropical dry-forest in northeastern Brazil. My current research is on its natural history, long term-monitoring, and population management through reintroduction.
I am an applied zoologist, ornithology, wildlife management specialist and conservation scientist. My interests are in fieldwork-based research, bird breeding biology, invasive species management, and especially reintroduction of endangered species.
I work with integrated conservation, motivated by the potential of zoological collections - zoos, aquariums and museums - for the study of biodiversity and its restoration, as well as their application in education and their capacity to reach levels of society.
I love spending timing observing animals, teaching about animals and planning field work. I am also a dedicated mother of two small children, that make my daily routine very dynamic.
