This Tax Day, Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans are trying to force through huge tax breaks for billionaires and corporations at the expense of workers and families. Their budget resolution attacks Medicaid, food assistance, and students, while the richest man in the world guts federal agencies from the Department of Education to the VA to the EPA.
The result? Trump and Republicans want you to pay for tax breaks for billionaires.

AMERICANS FOR TAX FAIRNESS
Billionaires got $3.6 trillion richer after the Trump tax scam. They're now worth a record $6.5 trillion.
Billionaires don't need more tax breaks.
According to the Yale Budget Lab, 70% of the benefits from the Republican budget would go to the richest 5%. Meanwhile, the bottom 40% gets stuck with the bill.
That's like taking your latest paycheck and dropping it off at the nearest McMansion.
Republicans are working to kick grandparents out of nursing homes, threaten coverage for 2 in every 5 births, hike grocery bills for millions, and raise your monthly student loan bill.
All to pay for tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations.
Billionaire wealth grew 3x faster in 2024 than in 2023 while working people struggled to afford groceries, gas, and rent.
Meanwhile, the Republican plan is to give huge tax breaks to the wealthy and their corporations—and cut support for families to pay for it.
The Republican tax plan is now projected to cost up to $5.5 TRILLION. 70% of the benefits are set to go to the richest 5% of Americans.
Republicans will either blow a giant hole in the deficit or go after our earned benefits to pay for it. This isn't just a scam—it's a heist.
From 1981 to 2021, $50 TRILLION moved from the bottom 90% of Americans to the top 1%.
But sure, grandparents on Medicaid and families who need help to afford eggs are the problem, not the billionaires in charge who are about to get more tax breaks.
If you make under $14,000, the Republican budget will cost you $1,125 a year. If you make under $38,000, it will cost you $430.
But if you make more than $650,000 a year, you'll get handed $43,500.
It's not "woke" and immigrants hurting you—it's trickle-down tax cuts.
Elon Musk and DOGE are not "finding savings." They're finding money that can be funneled to billionaires and corporations.
That's why they're cutting billions while working to spend trillions on tax breaks for the wealthy and corporations.
If we really wanted to talk about waste, fraud, and abuse, we wouldn't be talking about things like the Department of Education. We'd be talking about tax breaks for billionaires.
They want to give the richest 1% your family’s entire income every year in tax breaks.
And they want to kick your parents out of nursing homes and raise grocery bills for millions to do it. Really.

Giving new tax breaks for billionaires is bad enough.
Paying for these tax breaks by robbing all of us of our health care, child care, and student loan assistance is even worse.

Let’s make it clear that we will not stand by while billionaires and congressional Republicans work to rob us of our health care, child care, and student loan forgiveness.

Medicaid ensures more than 80 million people can access doctors, treatments, and medications without the risk of major debt or bankruptcy. Budget proposals in Congress would rob millions of families of this essential health care to give out more tax breaks to billionaires.

FAMILIES OVER BILLIONAIRES
No one likes filing their taxes, but this year Tax Day is even worse because Elon Musk, Donald Trump, and their billionaire friends are rigging the system against everyday Americans to line their own pockets.
Because of Elon’s illegal and reckless cuts, it’s now easier than ever for ultra-wealthy tax cheats to avoid paying what they owe, but harder for working class taxpayers to file their taxes.
Last year, the IRS launched a new platform called Direct File, which made filing taxes simple and free for more than 140,000 Americans where it was piloted. Now? Trump and Musk want to get rid of it, despite nearly 73% of filers saying they want to use it.
All the while, Republicans in Congress are going to use the money Musk steals from vital programs to give trillions in tax breaks to billionaires like him.
Trump, Musk, and Republicans in Congress are pushing a billionaire-first tax plan that gives massive handouts to the ultra-wealthy, while forcing everyone else to pay the price.
70% of their tax plan’s benefits go to the richest 5% while costs go up for the bottom 40% of Americans.
To fund those tax breaks for the wealthy, their plan slashes trillions in funding from Medicaid, nutrition assistance, and other essential services, including:
Millions kicked off their health insurance
Taking away school meals from children in need
Higher health care, housing, and grocery costs
A majority of Americans – across party lines – oppose cutting taxes for billionaires:
More than 75% of Americans support raising taxes on the ultra-wealthy and big corporations, including more than 60% of Republicans.
Most Americans (83%) believe that corporations and the ultra-wealthy don’t pay their fair share in taxes.
Three in four Americans are concerned about Republicans' plans to cut taxes for the ultra-wealthy by defunding critical programs.
Tax Day will remind millions of Americans of the challenges they’re facing just to get by, while politicians in Washington prioritize their wealthy donors over working families. As we’ve seen all across the country, the American people won’t let Congress get away with betraying working families

CARING ACROSS GENERATIONS
Care is taxing—in every sense of the word. When our tax dollars flow to billionaire tax breaks instead of to care systems we all need, care becomes emotionally and financially draining—not because of personal shortcomings, but because systems are deliberately designed to fail most people in the U.S..
This isn't about individual responsibility—it's about broken systems that demand collective solutions.
Our fight is to redirect resources from the wealthy few to care systems that serve everyone.
Key Talking Points
The struggle to find, afford, and provide care isn't a personal shortcoming—it's the result of systems designed to fail most people in the U.S..
Our tax contributions aren't just expenses—they're investments in the systems that allow all of us to thrive.
We must redirect public resources from wealth concentration to care infrastructure that serves everyone, not just those who can afford it.
When Medicaid and other care programs are cut, the impacts ripple through families' economic security, workforce participation, health outcomes, and community stability.
Everyone deserves to give and receive care with dignity. Collectively funding care infrastructure makes that possible.
Public investments in care create tangible benefits for everyone: stronger communities, more resilient local economies, and support systems that work when we need them.
Tax cuts that primarily benefit the wealthy leave care systems underfunded. That leaves families carrying the weight.

💸 The System is Rigged.
When billionaires make money from stocks, they pay a lower tax rate than you do on your paycheck.
📊 60% of Americans want to raise the top capital gains tax rate to match the top income tax rate
It's time for a system that works for everyone, not just the wealthy.
People and corporations with excessive wealth continue to control our government—making decisions that harm everyday Americans while enriching billionaires who hoard resources and exploit our communities.
This Tax Day, we're standing up and saying: Enough is enough.
Across the country, Americans overwhelmingly support taxing the wealthy. Yet while the rich keep getting richer, our vital social services are being slashed—schools underfunded, hospitals closed, and families left without the care and support they need to thrive.
What motivates Americans who are on the fence to support taxing the rich? Keeping the focus on working people and families as drivers of the economy is key. Learn more in the latest research from EWDi: https://www.excessivewealth.org/persuasion-messaging-report
