Guilherme is a biologist dedicated to uncovering the intricate relationship between birds and fruits in order to facilitate the natural recovery of degraded forests. His research focuses on understanding how a single bird and fruit can impact seed dispersal and the future of a whole forest.
I earned my bachelor's and licentiate degrees in Biological Sciences from São Paulo State University Julio de Mesquita Filho (UNESP, Rio Claro) in 2021. I carried out a Senior Thesis investigating the annual movement of the Vermilion Flycatcher (Pyrocephalus rubinus) as a neotropical migrator, through citizen science data. As an undergrad student I worked with wild animal rehabilitation, mimetic seeds' dispersal and led the monitoring of the reintroduced Blue-and-yellow Macaw (Ara ararauna). I joined Côrtes Lab as a NWO field-techinician in 2022 and as Master's student in Ecology, Evolution and Biodiversity at São Paulo State University, Rio Claro in 2023. My thesis revolves around seed dispersal mediated by animals, focussing on intraspecific variation in both plants and animals and the role of functional trait matching in the compatibility within the dynamics of their interactions.
