Greater Boston Area Research Opportunities for Young Women (GROW)

The Opportunity:

• GROW offers rising high school seniors the opportunity to perform research in a lab at BU for six weeks. Benefits include:
  • Participating in cutting edge research in a collaborative group setting
  • Meeting several times a week with a Program Manager to set goals and report of progress of your research
  • Visiting a local pharmaceutical or biotech company
  • Hearing guest speakers discuss their research and/or careers in STEM
  • Developing communication skills by presenting your research at a summer symposium
  • $1500 stipend upon completion of the program

The Ideal Student for this opportunity

• A female-identified junior who will be at least sixteen years old by July 1, 2019
• This is a highly competitive program and student should receive a nomination from a science teacher to participate.
• Students in good academic standing who are good representations of Uncommon:
  • 3.0+ GPA
  • 80% PW average
  • 90% attendance

Program Dates and Location

• Orientation on June 27-28th. (Note: July 4th and 5th are holidays.)
• June 28-August 9th M-F (9:30-4:30)

Student Application

  • Basic info, demographics, and 7 essay questions.
  • 2 letters of recommendation from math or science teachers
  • A transcript sent by the school
• The complete application is due by April 12.

Other Considerations

• Only 1-2 students should apply for this internship and aim to submit the application ahead of April 12 to avoid any hiccups with their online system.
