To the members of the UNC Charlotte ASCE Student Chapter,
With final exams coming to an end and summer break just around the corner, now is a great opportunity for the ASCE Student Chapter Board to share an update about the chapter over the semester.
The chapter has been able to have some wonderful social events, such as our annual Chili Cook-Off and Cornhole Tournament.
Our campus was host to several general body meetings for the student chapter where engineering companies came in to discuss how they serve our industry and shared their professional experiences with students.
Our Concrete Canoe team has secured their spot to compete in nationals over the summer! Help our teams get there by donating what you can.
We welcome a brand new board for the 2025-26 school year! Check out our board page to learn more about them!
Leadership at every level within this chapter are proud beyond measure by the success and spirit displayed in the last several months since the school year began. With that being said, there is much more work to be done, and there are more opportunities to improve and grow as an organization. The board wishes to keep this enthusiastic good will in momentum for the fall semester, and will do our very best to serve this chapter as we look ahead to the 2026 Symposium in April, and the future beyond.
Enjoy your summer break, and we will see you all when classes begin again in August!
Sincerely,
ASCE Student Chapter Board 2024-2025
ASCE is the first and oldest national engineering society, founded in 1852. National membership exceeds 144,000, with over 15,000 being student members. National membership is free to students which allows access to all technical content ASCE offers. This is an amazing opportunity, considering ASCE is the world’s largest publisher of civil engineering technical content!
The ASCE Student Chapter at UNCC was chartered in 1972 and officially became a club in 1975. We have been a large part of our community for over 50 years, helping students get involved hands-on experience in skills such as design, building, and networking, which has helped to prepare our members for their professional careers. As a student chapter, our goal is to facilitate interaction between students, faculty, and practicing engineers. Additionally, we sponsor intercollegiate competitions, community outreach, and society social events. The UNC Charlotte chapter hosts guest speakers from industry and government at meetings held throughout the semester. We strongly encourage all civil engineering students to participate in the many events that ASCE hosts!
The purpose of our chapter is to work together as engineering students for common goals. These goals are modeled after the National ASCE Chapter and include upholding a common view of making society a better place through the continual improvement of transportation, environmental, geotechnical and structural advancements as well as to represent the University of North Carolina at Charlotte’s Civil Engineering program at the Carolinas Symposium. The schools within the competition of the Carolinas Symposium include Clemson University, The University of South Carolina, The Citadel - the Military College of South Carolina, North Carolina State University, Duke University, North Carolina A&T, Horry-Georgetown Technical College, and South Carolina State University. This competition consists of competing in civil engineering related activities, such as the concrete canoe and steel bridge, and other various completions with the chance to advance to Nationals and the opportunity to meet and network with other future civil engineers in the Carolinas.
We love hearing from you and encourage you to reach out and get involved. You can find our social media and email at the bottom of the page. Thank you for being interested and keeping up with us, we really appreciate all the support we receive!
