This project is a series of interactive Twine-based text games designed to introduce and guide learners through key concepts in copyright, the public domain, Creative Commons licensing, and open pedagogy.
by Seyed Abdollah Shahrokni (Texas A&M University)
Each twine-based text game invites players to explore scenarios and make choices that shape their understanding of how knowledge is created, shared, and reused. The series currently includes three completed games:
Eldred's Adventures - This game relives the events leading to Creative Commons. Your choices reveal different paths through copyright, the public domain, and the birth of a global movement for sharing culture.
Vahid's Copyright Quest - Vahid's Copyright Quest is an interactive Twine story that follows Vahid, a new faculty member, as he explores copyright, fair use, the public domain, and Creative Commons through an exchange with a university librarian, Nora. Along the way, he learns how copyright theories shape creativity, how educators can share their work openly, and how we all grow together through openness.
Vahid's Creative Commons Journey - After navigating copyright, fair use, and the public domain, Vahid is now ready to explore how he can share his own teaching materials using Creative Commons licenses and public domain tools. He meets again with Nora Reed, the university's open education librarian, to learn about the Creative Commons license layers, elements, exceptions, and limitations.
Keep an eye out on Seyed's Twine profile as more planned games are soon to come.
