Dr. Starks completed medical school and neurology residency training at the University of Minnesota, where she was Chief Resident for Education & Curriculum. She went on to complete subspecialty training in behavioral neurology at the University of California, San Francisco. She is board certified in neurology and behavioral neurology & psychiatry. She is currently a staff neurologist at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center where her clinical practice includes dementia care at the GRECC (Geriatric Research, Education, & Clinical Center) and as the medical director of the Behavioral Recovery Outreach Team, in addition to general neurology. She is also an Associate Professor of Neurology at the University of Minnesota, where she is extensively involved in undergraduate medical education and the neurology residency program. Her education roles currently include co-course director of the medical school’s neuroscience course, neurology discipline lead for the med school’s pathophysiology course, neurology lead for the VALUE longitudinal clerkship, co-creator and director of the residency program’s Neurology Educator Track.
