Economist Laura Ullrich, of the Richmond Federal Reserve Bank, speaks with Julie Bunn during one of the speaker series events.
In a year marked by dramatic economic headlines, MCEE saw that many teachers were unsure of how to address current events in the economy within their classrooms. Seeing this need, MCEE hosted a series of timely conversations with national experts and leaders on economic topics dominating the news including cryptocurrency, recovery from COVID-19, and the state economy. With speakers from the University of Minnesota, Minnesota state government, and the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, educators and community members were able to dive deep into relevant issues in the economy and ask questions to help facilitate conversations with students across the state.
With plans to continue hosting a three-part speaker series moving forward, MCEE has an opportunity to inform public discussion on important economic issues and prepare students, educators, and community members to actively participate in policy decisions.
