With changing models of delivering professional development programs to teachers, MCEE has been re-examining its physical footprint of affiliated centers for economic education at colleges around Minnesota. With more hybrid and virtual offerings reaching educators in out-state Minnesota, there is a need to reallocate resources to meet demand and better provide relevant and timely support to teachers.
While this process is ongoing, centers will be evaluated for their efforts to conduct outreach to local teachers, promote and create curriculum and educator resources, and provide workshops and training for schools, teachers, and districts in their local area.
Amidst national conversations about equity, diversity, and inclusiveness, MCEE has been working internally to better reflect the realities of those we serve and those we work alongside. As a result of these internal conversations, the Board of Directors revisited and updated the Core Statements for MCEE and included new commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion in recognition of the need for greater work in these areas.
Additionally, the Minnesota Center for Diversity in Economics (an MCEE-affiliated center for economic education) hosted a series of research presentations on housing inequality and reparations for racial justice, conducted workshops on coding that gave under-represented students hands-on experience with data analysis and coding software, and conducted Cross-generational Femxle Mentorship (CFEM) to pair young economists with mentors and support systems.
