Biography
Rolando grew up in Monterrey, Nuevo León before pursuing a B.S. in Chemistry at Texas A&M University. During his undergraduate studies, he developed semiconducting materials through solid-state techniques in Prof. Sarbajit Banerjee's research group. He also served in various leadership roles, such as President of the Hispanic Presidents' Council, in which he focused on advocating for historically marginalized communities on and off campus. Rolando joined the Lamb Lab, where he researches NHC-borane adducts for catalysis. During his first year at the University of Minnesota, he became an officer of the Twin Cities Science Policy Network and a mentor for the Louis Stokes Northstar STEM Alliance. Rolando is also part of the NSF Circularity Impact Program at UMN, where he hopes to combine his interest in materials and energy with his passion for service. When he is outside of the lab, Rolando enjoys trying new recipes, going for runs, and learning Portuguese.
