Jialu Fan

Co-Director of Communications

About Me: Hello, everyone! I am a second-year Ph.D. student in STEM Education, specializing in Mathematics education and pursuing a statistics minor. I was born and raised in China. I enjoy interdisciplinary work with diverse linguistic, educational, and cultural backgrounds.

Prior to joining the U of M community, I was a public school teacher in California and Minnesota. I have excellent communication skills. I am the graduate research assistant for Prepare2Nspire. My role includes sending emails regularly to participants, creating flyers and posters for our events, contacting other campus organizations for tutor recruitment, generating Google forms and QR codes, arranging catering, etc. I also successfully helped our program develop a partnership with Panda Express. My past experiences and skills make me well-suited for this role.

My Responsibilities: My responsibilities include managing social media, organizing newsletters, and coordinating with other organizations on campus. I served as a member of the International Student Student Advisory Board during the 2022-2023 academic year and have built relationships with ISSS staff.

Why I'm Passionate About CIGS: Since I started my college education in the United States, being an international student has been an integral part of my identity. International graduate students bring unique perspectives to the campus, and I am passionate about supporting the community.
Key Achievements:

I presented at the LEAD conference this summer and LSGSC as a sole author this October.

Fun Facts:I am a big fan of the Renaissance Festival. My favorite outfit is a medieval princess with flower trains with butterflies on my hair. I also do ballet.
