About Me: Originally from Myanmar (Burma), I moved to the United States to complete my undergraduate studies in Chemistry (B.S.) and Cell and Molecular Biology (B.S.) at the University of South Florida. After mastering Floridian Category 4 hurricanes, I decided to take on Minnesotan winters by joining U of M! Currently, I am a Ph.D. candidate in the Chemistry Department, where my research focuses on engineering proteins for better therapeutics and greener biocatalysis. Before transitioning to co-president, I served as the Director of Finance at CIGS and the Secretary at Association of Multicultural Scientists (AMS).
My Responsibilities: Alongside Emily, I will primarily be responsible for guiding and supporting the CIGS team to coordinate events and operations that meet the needs of international graduate students.
Why I'm Passionate About CIGS: As an international student, I have faced unique challenges in academic, teaching, and social settings that differ from those of native or domestic students. I understand firsthand the complex and often frustrating situations that many international students encounter. Through CIGS, I want to foster a sense of community among international students, encouraging us to share our individual experiences to support one another.
Key Achievements:
I consider surviving Minnesotan winters and graduate school as my biggest achievements :)
