Director of Finance

About Me: I am a PhD candidate in Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior at the University of Minnesota, originally from Sri Lanka. My research focuses on ecology, genetics, and climate change. Beyond research, I am passionate about university governance, student advocacy, and building inclusive communities. I have served in leadership roles across the University, including the College of Biological Sciences Student Senate and University Senate.

My Responsibilities: As the Director of Finance, I oversee CIGS’s financial planning and operations, including budgeting, expenditures, financial records, and funding requests. I also work with the Board and University partners to support CIGS programs and initiatives.

Why I'm Passionate About CIGS: International graduate students bring diverse perspectives, experiences, and expertise to the University, yet we also navigate challenges that are often unique to the international student experience. CIGS provides an essential platform for students to connect across disciplines and cultures, advocate for their needs, and develop as leaders. Having experienced the international graduate student journey myself, I am passionate about strengthening that community and ensuring that international students are not only supported, but also recognized as important contributors and leaders within the University. I am particularly excited about helping CIGS build sustainable programs, strengthen partnerships across the University, and create greater opportunities for international graduate and professional students to make their voices heard.

Key Achievements: University Senate and College of Biological Sciences Graduate Student Senate representative (AY 2025–2026); Commission Member of four IUCN commissions focused on climate action, education and communication, ecosystem management, and protected areas; leadership in international student advocacy and university-wide initiatives.
