2015, B.S. Plant Science, Plant Breeding; Plant Pathology & Microbiology
Tessa (Ries) Rose Mahmoudi grew up on a farm in Red Wing, Minnesota where her family continues to practice sustainable agriculture techniques including composting. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with her B.S. in Plant Science. As a CFANS student, Tessa was involved in hunger advocacy, including being a leader in the Project Food Security Club, FFA workshops, and assisting coordination of the Minnesota Youth Institute. In graduate school, Tessa studied how plant-associated microorganisms can help mediate water-stress tolerance in wheat, completing her M.S. in Plant Pathology & Microbiology at TAMU. She then taught Horticulture at a community college and served as a senior adviser to a non-profit working to improve waste systems in developing countries. Currently, Tessa is the founder of Reaching Roots, an organization developing learning resources to make plant science available to as many people as possible through her Youtube channel and website. Tessa is happy to be a Connector because she's excited to share her college experiences with potential CFANS students and help them in their career paths.
