Dairy Population Health and Management Lab

Welcome to the Caixeta Lab

Our research group studies metabolic and infectious diseases as well as management strategies to improve the health and performance of dairy cows. We are interested in developing applied research to understand the relationship between the metabolism and physiology during the transition from late gestation to early lactation with health, milk production, and reproductive performance in the dairy cow. In our research projects we strive to integrate state-of-the-art basic science technology and techniques aimed to understand cell biology, immune response, genomics, metabolome, proteome, microbiome, epigenetics to our applied dairy production medicine and management research questions.

Our ultimate goal is to anticipate the occurrence of events that are detrimental to dairy cow's health and performance in order to implement management strategies to enhance dairy cow's health, welfare and performance potential and decrease the impact of metabolic and infectious diseases in the dairy industry.
