Hi everyone my name is Hannah, my pronouns are she, her, and hers, and I'm a current student at the school social work. Today I'll be walking you through how to register for classes here at the school of social work.
So first it's really helpful to have a few different tabs open. First and foremost, is Wolverine access. The second is the school social work course catalog. And finally it’s also helpful to have your course planning sheet easily accessible.
So let's get started. First you’re going to log into Wolverine access and navigate to your student dashboard which is under student business. Next you’ll click on class search/browse catalog. And to search for classes you can use the page right here that is loaded. You can select the subject of Social Work by clicking here, or simply by typing in SW. You’ll also want to make sure that you click 500 level and above to make sure that you are only seeing graduate level options. Now we’ll click search.
Now let's say that I need to take Basic Social Work Research, which is social work 522. There are a few different sections and I can look at each of them to see the time and date that work best for my schedule. Also, to tell if a class is open or closed you will use the green circle for open, the blue square for closed, and the orange triangle for waitlist. In the school of social work, if you come across a full class, we do not use the waitlist function. So, you will instead need to fill out a course enrollment petition on the school of Social Work website. The waitlist function is really only useful for classes that you would like to take outside of the school of social work.
So, to add one of these 522 sections to my backpack, I will just click on the class number. And with the details here I can confirm that this is what I am looking for. Now I will copy and paste the class number, toggle over to backpack and registration, make sure I am in the correct term, and paste right here where it says enter class number. If I click enter, I can move to the process of adding this to my backpack right here. And then I’ll click next, and now it is in my backpack.
So once it is your official registration time, or after, and you have all the courses that you would like to add to your backpack, you can move on to the step of actually registering for your classes.
For now I'm just going to focus on this 522 class right here. So I will check the class that I want to register for, and you can check multiple classes once you are ready to register. And you will click proceed. And then you’ll double check what’s listed here and click finish registering, once you are ready to actually register for classes. And if there is an error it will display the reason why.
But let's say that you would like to drop a class that you have initially registered for. I'm going to stay in the same window, of my backpack. Just going to cancel out of this. And we’ll go up to the top where it says drop. And we’ll just check the boxes of the classes that we would like to drop. We would check here and just click drop selected classes. And, if that happens properly it won't show up on your semester schedule any longer.
One last important thing to remember about registering, is registering for field placement credits. This is a really important part of building your class schedule at the School of Social Work. So you're going to go back to the search window, like we just did, and in order to do this as you search for classes you need to click on include independent study classes, to find Social Work 515 or Social Work 691, which are foundational or advanced field credits respectively. So let's try 515. So all you need to do, once we click search, is scroll all the way down, and click on this section 888. This will allow the field office to link you with your field advisor at a later time. And once you add this to your backpack, by clicking on the class number and copying and pasting it into your backpack, it will ask you to enter the number of units you need that semester as you go through the registration process. You should do this according to your course planning worksheet. It is important to note, also, that if you are a part-time MSW student, that you will not register for field until your second year in the program.
So, thank you for following along with this short demonstration with me. And feel free to email the office of student services if you have any questions at all about this process.
