Panel: Future of Mobility

The themes discussed will range from the very definition of what the future looks like to the biggest challenges/opportunities for companies and students. The panelists will also answer student questions through Slido, a live Q&A, and polling platform.

Angela Flood, American Center for Mobility

Angela Flood is the Director of Business and Economic Development at the American Center for Mobility.

Angela leads the generation of new market attraction initiatives at ACM, driving market and business research to identify mobility companies that are a good fit for the ACM ecosystem. Whether to use the test center, host an event or locate within the ACM technology park, Angela identifies and facilitates meaningful engagements for the greater growth and prosperity of ACM and the SE Michigan region.


Angela has spent over 20 years working in automotive, real estate, and economic development working now in collaboration with Ann Arbor SPARK and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.

Angela earned her MBA/MS through the Erb Institute for Global Sustainability at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business and the School for Sustainability and the Environment at the University of Michigan.


Russell Hensley, McKinsey

Russell Hensley is a Partner in McKinsey’s Detroit Office and a senior leader within the Firm’s Global Automotive and Assembly Practice.

Russell joined McKinsey in 2003 and has focused the past 18 years on strategic and operational transformations within the global automotive and industrial companies. He co-leads McKinsey’s Center for Future Mobility (MCFM) driving thought leadership and client service on vehicle electrification and shared mobility. Prior to McKinsey, he led Vehicle Engineering Operations at Ricardo Consulting Engineers and the Motor Industry Research Association, both in North America. Throughout the 1990s, he launched multiple vehicles for Ford Motor Company in Europe, North America, and Japan (Mazda).

Russell has a Bachelor of Engineering with Honors in Mechanical Engineering from Leeds University, England, and a Masters in Business Administration, with Distinction, from The University of Michigan.

Doug Mehl, AT Kearney

Doug Mehl is a partner at Kearney, leads the Firm’s Automotive and Industrial Practice for the Americas, and is the global lead for Industry 4.0 service line.

Doug has over 25 years of Automotive experience helping his clients on their most critical strategic and operational issues. Prior to Kearney, Doug led the start-up and management of a Private Equity fund focused on Tier 1 and 2 automotive and industrial suppliers in the manufacturing and engineering space. Doug began his career at Ford Motor Company, working across Product Development and Manufacturing, including holding roles as Operations Manager in both domestic and international plants.

Doug serves on the Industry Advisory Board of the Tauber Institute for Global Operations at the University of Michigan. Doug holds an MBA from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business and a B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from The Ohio State University.

Jim Morgan, Rivian

Jim Morgan is the former Interim-COO at Rivian and Senior Advisor at The Lean Enterprise Institute.

Jim has more than 35 years of industry experience serving most recently as Chief Operating Officer at Rivian, an electric vehicle manufacturer that he helped lead through a critical transition period. Prior to Rivian, Jim spent ten years at Ford Motor Company, first leading the development of Ford’s Global Product Development System (GPDS) then serving for eight and a half years as their Global Director of Body, SBU, and Tooling Engineering during Ford’s historic, product-led revitalization under then CEO, Alan Mulally. Prior to Ford, Jim worked at Troy Design and Manufacturing (TDM) for 15 years as Vice President of Operations. TDM is a tier-one, global automotive supplier of engineering services, prototype tools, and low-volume parts and subassemblies.

Jim holds a Ph.D. in Engineering from the University of Michigan where his original research into Product Development won two Shingo Prizes for Research Excellence. In addition, he co-authored (with Professor Jeffrey Liker) the award-winning book The Toyota Product Development System (2006) and Designing the Future (2018). He has also authored or co-authored several other book chapters on product development, as well as related articles for the Sloan Management Review, The Engineering Management Journal, and other publications.

Kunal Vora, Tesla

Kunal Vora is a Senior Manager for Supplier Quality Operations and Programs at Tesla.

Kunal quickly grew through the ranks at Tesla, especially during turbulent times when Tesla went through Production, Logistics, and Delivery hell. He has led and scaled critical programs with end-to-end ownership over strategy, product, program, analytics, launch, and operations. Prior to Tesla, Kunal worked with Amazon, where he spent the majority of his time leading the Last-Mile Delivery Strategy for Amazon Fresh and Amazon Prime Now (Whole Foods). Here he developed go-to-market strategies, launched services in various markets, partnered with operations, and led teams focused on program and product management.

Kunal holds a Masters in Supply Chain Management from the University of Michigan.
