2021 Southeast Michigan’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Same Gender Loving (LGBTQ+/SGL) Housing, Health, and Services Survey for Older Adults

The HOMES survey: 2021 Southeast Michigan’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Same Gender Loving (LGBTQ+/SGL) Housing, Health, and Services Survey for Older Adults

LGBTQ+ organizations in Southeast Michigan want to hear from you about housing and service needs for same-gender loving (SGL), lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender older adults (LGBTQ+) in Southeast Michigan.

You are eligible to complete the survey if you are 45 years of age or older, live in one of the four SE Michigan counties (Wayne, Macomb, Oakland or Washtenaw) and identify as part of the LGBTQ+/SGL community.

The information gathered will help us understand housing, health, and service needs in Southeast Michigan. This information is critically important to ensure that our community has the housing, services, and funding we need and want.

The participating organizations asked the University of Michigan School of Social Work to help develop and administer the survey, and to maintain the privacy of the data. They will be available to answer questions or to help you to complete the survey if you encounter difficulties. We hope that most people can complete the survey electronically, but if this is not possible, or you prefer to respond by telephone, please call the toll-free number below and leave a message with contact information so we can schedule an interview.

Once you have completed the survey, you will be directed to another website to sign up for $30 as a thank you for your participation.

Participating in this study is completely voluntary. Even if you decide to participate now you may change your mind and stop at any time. For most questions, you can also choose not to answer a question for any reason. Some additional information:

1. By completing the survey, you will be helping to create new information that is currently not available but very important for the well-being of LGBTQ+/SGL older adults. In addition, the survey may assist you to think about your own situation, your preferences for housing in the future, and factors that may influence this.

2. The survey includes four sections and is estimated to take an average of 40 minutes to complete. The survey does not need to be completed in one sitting. You may take a break from the survey and return to it later, if you use the same device (e.g. phone, tablet, computer) that you used when you originally began the survey. Clicking the survey link will return you to the place where you left off.

3. The risks in completing the survey are minimal, and no greater than those encountered in everyday life. All of your responses will be kept separately from any identifying information that we need to collect to get a thank-you to you. Your individual responses will be combined with responses from other survey participants for reporting purposes so that your responses cannot be identified individually. The data will be kept at the University and your individual responses will not be shared with coalition partners. As noted earlier, you may choose not to answer some questions and may also end your participation at any time. Thus, your participation is entirely voluntary and the information collected will be confidential.

4. After you have completed the survey, you will be directed to another website where you will have the opportunity to sign up for $30, and can also decide if you would like your email address to be added to coalition partner email lists.
