DACC-A-THON and Cyan machines

During the Winter 2021 semester, GCISA had weekly project meetings to work on the design of a small-scale direct air carbon capture machine, Cyan, that uses calcium hydroxide to capture carbon dioxide and form calcium carbonate.

During Summer 2021, GCISA formed student teams that worked on their own modifications to improve the design of the Cyan machine for the DACC-A-THON competition. This competition was organized by GCISA, the Global CO2 Initiative, and the OpenAir Collective.

During the Fall 2021 semester, GCISA co-hosted the DACC-A-THON showcase event where these student teams presented their work and the winning design was announced. GCISA plans to host an additional event in the upcoming semesters where student leaders will lead the general public through how to build their own Cyan machines for use at home or in the office.

Carbon Chats

Thought-provoking and collaborative group discussions which were related to carbon removal and sustainability.

Nuclear Energy Exploration

A team project which was focused on the design of an open source website for implementing nuclear and other types of sustainable energy into the electricity grid.

DACC + Sorbent: Solar Power

A team build project which was focused on designing and building solar panels that would directly power Project COBALT. The scope of this project also included plans to create an energy storage system to deal with solar intermittency.

This project team has been combined directly with Project COBALT.
