Who am I?
Hello! Welcome to my Writer's Website. My name is Gabe Efros and I am currently in the first semester of my junior year at the University of Michigan, majoring in Public Policy at the Ford School of Public Policy with a Minor in Writing through the Sweetland Center. At the University of Michigan, I am the Editorial Page Editor for the Opinion section and a Columnist for the Statement section at The Michigan Daily, an editor for the Michigan Review of Prisoner Creative Writing, and was just accepted to the Peer Writing Consultant program through the Sweetland Center, which I will begin in Fall of 2026.
Outside of school, I love walking in the Arboretum, watching movies, and spending time with my family and my two dogs.
This website is centered on my origin piece and the experiments that corresponded with it over the course of my semester in Writing 220, which display my passion for politics, political conversation, and political elections.
What am I trying to accomplish with my writing?
Politics is important to me, and everyone, for many reasons. But most singularly, politics has the capability to drive societal change more than any other historical process. In America, anyone can participate, but not everyone does. in particular, younger adults simply do not vote as much as their older counter-parts.
I am a young adult, and this terrifies me. I know that many people my age have strong views, but don't believe strongly that they can affect the political processes in our country. The fact of the matter is that they can.
I want people to feel imbued to bring about the change that they wish to see. That is why writing is important to me. In doing so, I discover not only what I find meaningful, but what others find meaningful as well. Through my writing, my ultimate desire is for others my age to take a hold of their future, and become stakeholders in this country's political future.
My Part in the Struggle for Youth Voter Turnout
As I matriculate into a new role at The Michigan Daily, I will not only have more of a responsibility, but more of an opportunity to influence editorial decisions. The Daily serves not just campus, but the entire Ann Arbor community as the only print newspaper in the area. I will have the ability to reach younger students, as well as older residents in the surrounding community. A year has passed since the presidential elections, and there is a year to go until the mid-term elections. I am planning on directing and writing a comprehensive, continuous series of editorials that speak to issues that young people care about, while maintaining accuracy and informational relevance in order to reach people that typically do not vote.
My Project
The ultimate purpose of my experience in Writing 220 is to transform my origin piece into one project that can be a catalyst for increasing voter participation, specifically amongst my age cohort of young adults. Each experiment dealt with variations in genre and form to help me decide how I wanted to ultimately go about that goal.
