What excites you every day when you wake up?

Oh, my. That’s a hard question. Every Sunday, I have a routine of going swimming. That has been a great addition to my life lately. It is exciting to have that commitment to try something new.

That is awesome, have you always loved swimming?

Not really. I just started this semester. I learned in middle school, but it’s been at least five years. I feel like I’ve discovered a new hobby.

How do you feel about your journey into adulthood?

I feel like it’s going okay for me. The definition of an adult is different in China than in the US. In China, age 18 is the threshold. America seems more all over the place. I still remember coming to Ann Arbor for the first time, and not being able to get into the club. I was so disappointed.

I think higher education just makes me feel like I am young. I am looking ahead to grad school next. I do feel as though I’m working my way through adolescence and into adulthood, but that takes time.

Have you been able to discover what values are most important to you?

Diversity is very important to me, especially as an international student here. I am a first generation student, and  also a member of the LGBTQ+ community. And I feel like all of this helps me to admire and appreciate diversity in my life.

Is there a question you feel like you’re still waiting on an answer for?

I have a lot of them. When I was little, I would always wonder about undiscovered science. Thank God for YouTube. That’s the superficial answer.

I think human society is so complicated, and one question that has gone unsolved for me is, why do we all seem to hate one another? Why is there war?

That is a fantastic question.

I think so too.
