Change the University of Michigan’s biomedical research institutional culture to be more equitable and inclusive by cultivating knowledge amongst graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, faculty, research staff and technicians, office staff, and administration.

We aim to serve as both a resource for members of our community interested in learning and as a platform for other students looking to run diversity events of their own.

Please join the DEI Task Force to engage in a conversation about race in the academy with University of Michigan STEM faculty of color. This event honoring Black History Month was created to help address the unique obstacles faced by trainees of color.

Our panelists will address how to respond to racially-charged comments frequently directed towards trainees color and other marginalized populations. The discussion will provide resolutions for addressing microaggressions at all levels of training and administration with the goal of empowering student, postdocs, faculty, and staff to help make our labs and offices as diverse and inclusive as possible.

In this workshop, the DEI Taskforce lead small group discussions and activities designed to give attendees an understanding of intersectionality and the roles it plays in research environments.


Queer scientists guided small group discussions on some of the available data about LGBTQ+ experiences in STEM. Using the data, we outlined what straight allies can do to make their labs inclusive for queer scientists.
