Alan Wiggins, associate professor of mathematics, University of Michigan-Dearborn. Alan had no experience with math circles before he got sucked into the Maize and Blue Math Circle by Yunus, but he has enjoyed every moment of it. He helps out with coordination and lesson plans whenever he can. His main research area is von Neumann algebras, though he has also done work in operator theory.
Michelle Bissonette is a mathematics teacher at STEM Middle School, teaching grades 6-8. She attended the University of Michigan, Dearborn to earn degrees in Education. Ms. Bissonette has taught middle school math for fifteen years. In her spare time, she enjoys tap dancing and painting her nails. She is married to her husband, Shawn, and a has a dog, Reggie.
Margaret graduated from Western Michigan University with a Master of Arts in Pure Mathematics and a Master of Science in Applied Statistics. She worked for General Motors as a Senior Statistician in Manufacturing, Product Engineering, and Reliability and Validation. Margaret had the opportunity to learn and work with Dr. Deming and Dr. Gipsie Ranney. She is most proud of incorporating design of experiments into validation at the vehicle level. Throughout her career she has also done contract work for Ford Motor Company as a Technical Expert building models that incorporated customer satisfaction and engineering. Margaret uses her industry experience to teach students how to think statistically. Statistics is in every field. Today an individual must be aware of how to see this emerging world with the lens of statistical thinking.
Anne is a current junior at the University of Michigan-Dearborn perusing a BS in Mathematics and a Secondary Education Certification. Anne has been working with the Center for Math Education since April 2019. Her favorite aspect of working with the CME is helping students enjoy learning mathematics and seeing those "ah-ha" learning moments happen.
Maya is a sophomore majoring in Electrical Engineering and Engineering Mathematics. She has been working with the Center for Math Education since May 2019 specifically with the Maize and Blue Math Circle. She enjoys working with professors in the biweekly sessions with high schoolers and getting them excited about mathematics!
