Social Events
Recharge and Mingle: Evening Social Hour (End of Day 1)
Our evening social hour offers a welcome respite from the conference's packed agenda. Savor delicious food and beverages while engaging in stimulating discussions with fellow attendees. Forge new connections and exchange insights in a relaxed and enjoyable environment. The venue has a cash bar and dinner is available for purchase. We will gather in front of main entrance to the building after the program.
Discover Local Treasures: Conference Excursion (Afternoon of Day 2)
Take a break from the conference and immerse yourself in the local culture and scenery! Our excursion will take you to some of the area's most fascinating sites. Network with fellow attendees and make unforgettable memories as you explore together. We will have an indoor and an outdoor option (see more below). You will be asked to make your selection prior to the conference so we can arrange the chartering transportation.
Outdoor option: Great Falls, Maryland: Nature's Power on Display (pictured below)
The Great Falls Park on the Maryland side offers a breathtaking escape into the raw power and beauty of the Potomac River. There, the river dramatically transforms from a calm flow into a series of cascading waterfalls and churning rapids, carving its way through a rugged, rocky gorge. The park provides stunning overlooks and hiking trails that allow you to witness this natural spectacle up close. The park also features the C&O Canal which was a gathering place and a dream of American commerce for centuries. See more information here.
Indoor option: The Botanic Garden and the Museums in the National Mall
For those preferring an indoor experience, we invite you to explore the U.S. Botanic Garden, the oldest continuously operating public garden in the United States. Nestled in the heart of Washington, D.C., this living plant museum offers a unique opportunity to discover rare and diverse plant species, learn about conservation efforts, and experience curated exhibits showcasing the irreplaceable value of plants to our world. Located on the National Mall, the Botanic Garden is just the beginning of your afternoon adventure. After your visit or if you are not exactly a plant lover, you’ll be free to explore any of the renowned museums within walking distance, including the National Museum of the American Indian, the National Air and Space Museum, the National Gallery of Art, the Hirshhorn Museum (modern art), and the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History.
Participants can choose to return to campus by bus in time for dinner or stay in DC for the evening and return at their own pace using the city’s convenient public transportation options.
