Title: AI, TALENT AND BIAS: CHANGING HOW WE HIRE
Abstract:
Catalyte is a technology workforce development company founded and headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland committed to addressing the technology workforce needs of the business community and providing a path for underemployed individuals into high-paying technology career. We believe that the innate ability to become a high performing software developer is abundant and evenly distributed across the population, however, opportunity is not. Barriers to acquire the necessary education and experience have stood in the way of linking large segments of our population into highly valued jobs in the digital economy. Catalyte seeks out these individuals who have the ability to become amazing technologists and gives them the training and experience required to become a software developer. We do this by using cognitive science and AI/machine learning to identify the ability in individuals and transform it into skills and experience. Individuals who have completed our program and gone off to work in technology jobs in other organizations have increased their average compensation by over $65,000 per year – from $25,000 to $91,000 over a five-year period. Over 25% of those who have completed our program have seen an increase in their earnings of over $100,000 per year. These waiters, baristas, valets, teachers, construction workers and others from all walks of life have fundamentally changed the trajectory of their family’s future.
