STORIES FROM 2017-18

Our work with NOI+F fellows began in 2017, with the lofty goal of “reimagining the future of the orchestra.” While we were never under the illusion that a scrappy team of designers spending a couple weeks working alongside the festival would actually redesign the whole orchestra, we were enthusiastic to jump into this new collaboration and learn alongside our design students and orchestra partners. 

Our work in these first two years followed a more traditional “design curriculum,” with the work being framed with a specific design challenge framed by the facilitators. As the work of the Studio has evolved over the years, we’ve moved away from this studio-in-parallel format and become more embedded in the Festival, but the experiments of the first two years were incredibly formative for us - and a lot of fun!
