Research On Social Conditions & Health Equity lab

We are a newly founded public health research lab within the Center for Health, Equity, & Aging at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. We use social epidemiologic and qualitative methods to better understand the health and experiences of oppressed and marginalized people within and outside of the U.S.

Our mission is to investigate the social, political, and structural determinants of health, develop and evaluate public health interventions, improve the quality and delivery of health services, and use our research to inform evidence-based policymaking.

Historically we have pursued projects across several domains, including the well-being of children & families, global health issues, mental health services, and political polarization. Our current focus is primarily on issues related to (im)migrant health and women’s health.

These streams are not mutually exclusive, and our projects are often cross-cutting.
