Course Synopsis

This course will explore the economic development of Southeast Asian countries. The first part of this course is related to the principles of economic development, which will focus on the structure and economic characteristics of Southeast Asian countries and various theories of economic development. The second part of this course is related to the problems and policies of economic development and will focus on the problem of poverty, inequality and growth, population growth and economic development, urbanization and migration, and human capital. The third part of this course will focus on transformation of agriculture and rural development, industrial development, the role of banking and financial system and international trade in the economic development of Southeast Asian countries. Recent shocks in the global economy and its impact on the Southeast Asian economies will also be discussed.
