Introduction to Healthcare Research

Course Synopsis

Health researchers need to be clear about what their research topic Is before they embark on the research process. To develop this clarity, It Is Important to define the research question and search for relevant studies in the literature.

At the end of this 2-hour session. learners will be able to

1) Define a clear research question In the PICO format

2) Search for literature related to the research question In an online medical database

This course Is aimed at students who have no research experience and want to understand how researchers choose and define a research question.


The Expert

Dr. Lee Yew Kong

Dr. Lee Yew Kong has a background In Psychology and Is Head of the Research Training Unit at the Faculty of Medicine which coordinates research training workshops and seminars In the faculty. As an educator. he was Involved In developing University of Malaya's first MOOC course (Introduction to Research for Healthcare Professlonals'1 In 2014. He believes that online education Is an strategic method tor delivering basic training to healthcare professionals who have busy clinical schedules or are stationed In remote areas where travel Is challenging.

Ms. Tong Wen Ting

Ms. Tong Wen Ting Is the administrator of the Faculty of Medicine's Health Research Online (HeRO) Initiative. which develops and implements courses on research skills tor healthcare professionals. She Is currently completing her PhD on shared decision making Implementation and has published more than 30 research articles In various health journals.
