Course Synopsis

This program is specifically designed as an introductory program for beginners of Malay language. Both oral and written aspects are emphasized in this program for simple communication. This program includes basic Malay grammar, pronunciations (oral), listening and understanding simple vocabulary, phrases and sentences and reading simple passages. The program is taught through online lectures with some practical activities.

The Expert

Dr Mardian Shah Omar

Dr Mardian Shah Omar is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Linguistics, (Dalam Bahasa lnggeris) Academy of Malay Studies, University of Malaya. Having BA (Hons) in Malay Studies from the University of Science Malaysia (USM). Obtained an MA in Linguistics from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom and a PhD. from the National University of Malaysia (UKM). Has produced more than ten publications related to teaching Malay as a foreign language including chapters in books and journals. He was an Honorary Fellow of SEASSI program at the University of Wisconsin, USA in 2006. He served as a Program Coordinator of Teaching Malay for Foreigners at ATMA, UKM and has appointed as a visiting lecturer at the University of York, England for teaching Malay as a foreign language.
