Course Synopsis

Artificial intelligence (AI) techniques are considered in a category of computer science involved in the research, design, and application of intelligent computers. Traditional methods for modelling and optimizing complex structure systems require huge amounts of computing resources, and computing-based solutions can often provide valuable alternatives for efficiently solving problems in engineering. Such techniques, due to making nonlinear and complex relationships between dependent and independent variables, can be performed in the field of engineering with a high degree of accuracy.

In this short course, we will talk about the applications of AI techniques in civil engineering fields. First, backgrounds of some well-known AI techniques will be discussed. Then, several real problems in civil engineering and their solutions using AI techniques will be described in detail. At the end of this course, the participants will be able to know AI techniques and how they can solve engineering problems.

Dr. Danial Jahed Armaghani

Dr. Danial Jahed Armaghani currently works as a senior lecturer in Faculty of Engineering, University of Malaya, Malaysia. I received my postdoc from Amirkabir University of Technology, Tehran, Iran. I received my Ph.D and Master degrees in August 2015 and September 2012, respectively, in Geotechnics, from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Malaysia. My area of research is tunnelling, rock mechanics, blasting environmental issues, applying AI and optimization algorithms in civil engineering geotechnics and geomechanics, etc.
