The inaugural International Conference on Translation was held in 1984, co-initiated by the Malaysian Translators Association (Persatuan Penterjemah Malaysia, PPM) and Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP), in recognition of the importance of translation as the primary means of knowledge transfer in the effort of developing the nation and its people.

The 18th International Conference on Translation, to be held on 24 – 26 August 2021 will be historic in its own way as it is to be carried out under the new norms (virtual) and circumstances brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Virtual presentation of papers will not only enable borderless sharing and exchanges of the latest knowledge, ideas, experience and research findings, but will also promote the role of translation in fostering global prosperity and well-being.

Akademi Pengajian Bahasa, Universiti Teknologi MARA has been chosen as the host for the forthcoming biennial conference, with support from co-organisers: the Malaysian Translators Association (Persatuan Penterjemah Malaysia, PPM), Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) and The Malaysian Institute of Translation & Books (Institut Terjemahan dan Buku Malaysia, ITBM).
