Abstract:
The article examines why the sentence is the central, most important unit of syntax. It is clarified what role a complex sentence plays in the grammatical system of the Ukrainian language.
It has been proven that speech semantics is determined by the lexical meanings of the words that make up the sentence. A number of problems are associated with the semantics of the sentence. The semantic structure of a complex sentence has become the object of comprehensive research, the vast majority of linguists note the importance of studying a sentence from the point of view of its meaning, the interaction of semantic and formal structures.
Systematic study of the syntax of a complex sentence not only completes the work on the complex of linguistic means, on the awareness of the structure of the language, but also ensures the practical mastery of all linguistic means.
It has been proven that in order to stimulate the activity of students, to encourage the formation and use of morphological forms and syntactic constructions (complex-ordered, compound-subordinate, unconjunctive and multi-component), the teacher himself must have an impeccable command of the relevant theoretical material (the grammatical basis of a sentence; what is the difference between a complex-ordered and a complex-subordinated sentence, simple from complex, etc.
The effectiveness of teaching the syntax of a complex sentence in Ukrainian language lessons depends not only on the essence of concepts, terms and rules learned by students, especially not on their number, but also on the entire organization of the educational process, on the successful selection of didactic material, on the correct and interestingly chosen methods and techniques of work.
Keywords: complex sentence, speech, elementary school.
