Abstract:

The article objectively describes the life and multifaceted activities of Augustyn Voloshyn, a prominent state, socio-political and cultural figure of twentieth-century Transcarpathia, President of Carpathian Ukraine, Hero of Ukraine. Attention is paid to the charitable activities of Augustyn Voloshyn’s family in relation to orphans.

The importance of Augustyn Voloshyn as a scientist (educator, literary critic, linguist, ethnographer, theologian, publicist, publisher), public, cultural and church figure, President of Carpathian Ukraine goes far beyond regional assessment. In other words, his name occupies a prominent place in the spiritual oasis of the history of Ukraine, its culture and science of the first half of the 20th century.

The democratic orientation of the scientific heritage of A. Voloshyn as a teacher, its social acuity and objective interpretation on the anniversary of the defense of the spiritual aspirations of the Ukrainian people – the autochthonous population on the territory of historical Zakarpattia, – its annals, language, traditions, customs, written and fairy-tale wealth – all this determined the specific weight of the fruitful activity of this figure in the field of Ukrainian culture.

Voloshyn’s education and training system, which is characterized by its original conceptual sound, deserves further study, and it has not lost its significance even now. It is based, in the words of K. Ushinsky, on the «national system of education», which contains «its own special goal and its own special means of achieving this goal». We are talking about the dominant conditionality of the system of ideals, ideas that have a general humanistic focus, as well as traditions, customs, and ceremonies that carry social practice, historical experience of generations of this or that nation.

The last prerequisite is one of the determining factors, which is designed to educate young people in the spirit of cultural and historical heritage, which is, in turn, a solid foundation for the creation of a national system of educating the younger generation in the name of independent Ukraine.
