DEMOCRACY INDICES AS INDICATORS OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF CIVIC EDUCATION IN THE PROFESSIONAL TRAINING OF FUTURE TEACHERS IN THE KINGDOM OF NORWAY

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the study of the essence, types and role of indices of measuring sociological phenomena in the context of introducing civic education into the professional training of future teachers in a country with a high level of democracy.
The content analyses the indices of measuring democratic phenomena, in particular: Freedom in the World Index, Global Competitiveness Index (GCI), Democracy Perception Index (DPI), Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem) Index, Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), Rule of Law Index, Human Freedom Index (HFI), Index of African Governance (IIAG), Bribe Payers Index (BPI), The Social Progress Index (SPI), Global Hunger Index (GHI), Global Slavery Index, Global Youth Development Index (YDI), Global Education Index (GEI), Inclusive Internet Index, Global Democracy Barometer, Happy Planet Index (HPI), Global Terrorism Index (GTI), Global Hunger and Climate Vulnerability Index, Global Open Data Index (GODI), Global Urban Competitiveness Report (GUCR), Global AgeWatch Index and Human Development Index (HDI).
It has been established that these indices have a significant impact on the implementation of civic education in the state, as they objectively determine the leaders of democracy using quantitative indicators. This, in turn, gives impetus to the study of the experience of the Kingdom of Norway and its implementation in countries where civic education is at the stage of formation or post-war recovery.
On the example of educational programmes for future teachers in some Norwegian higher education institutions, the article highlights the use of democracy indices (Democracy Index and Global Youth Development Index (YDI)) to develop the content, forms, methods and means of their professional training both during classes and extracurricular activities. This approach affects the level of students’ own civic competence and ensures its proper formation in students in their future professional activities.
We believe that further detailed study of democracy indices and their relationship with the process of forming an active citizen is promising, in order to introduce them into the content of professional training of future teachers of Ukraine.
