Abstract:
The article analyzes the history of the development of European vocal art from the earliest times to the 19th century. It is emphasized that singing, as the oldest and most natural form of musical art, is deeply connected with human nature, and the combination of singing and speech is undoubtedly one of the greatest achievements of mankind.
It is emphasized that the origins of vocal art go back to time immemorial, and artistic singing existed before our era in Egypt, Asia Minor, Eastern countries and Ancient Greece.
From the literary sources that highlight the history of artistic singing from ancient times to the 15th century, only a few works are known, in which separate statements about professional training in vocal art are given (Boethius, Marchetto of Padua, Hieronymus of Moravia).
The works of the 16th and 17th centuries, which not only explored general musical theories, but also delved deeply into the technique of vocal performance, were analyzed. These works sought to give a scientific explanation of the formation of sound and presented the first systematized methods of teaching artistic singing.
The author notes that in the 19th century, democratic opera developed in Europe, which contained realistic tendencies – opera buffa in Italy, comic domestic opera in France, “beggars’ opera” in England, zingspiel in Germany and Austria.
The author emphasizes that vocal art has a centuries-old history, during which it has gone through a significant path of development, evolving from the most ancient forms to modern professional genres, becoming one of the most important components of world culture. The evolution of vocal art over the centuries demonstrates its ability to adapt and constantly renew, which makes it relevant even in our time.
