Abstract:
The article considers the professional self-determination of an individual as a long-term subjective and objective process characterized by the gradual development of harmonization of a person’s professional and psychological capabilities with the content and requirements of a profession in the labor market, which reflects the social development of an individual, his or her needs for self-actualization and self-realization. In this regard, the author analyzes the socioeconomic situation of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries and the priority of various areas of work and proves that this has an impact on the readiness of a young person for professional self-determination. At each stage of this period, the importance of solving the problem of professional self-determination increases.
The author emphasizes that professional self-determination is a multidimensional process that is closely related to the socio-economic status of a historical stage and is viewed from different perspectives: first, as a series of tasks that society sets for an individual and which this individual must solve over a certain period. Secondly, as a process of step-bystep decision-making, through which an individual forms a balance between his or her wishes and inclinations, on the one hand, and the needs of society, on the other. Finally, professional self-determination is perceived as a process of forming an individual lifestyle, of which professional activity is a part. At the same time, professional self-determination implies self-knowledge and objective assessment of one’s own individual characteristics, comparison of one’s professionally important qualities and capabilities with the requirements necessary for mastering a particular profession. This is the process of making a decision by a person to choose a future career (choice of profession, professional educational institution, place of work).
