Abstract:
The authors have examined the problem of forming children’s information and digital competence in the context of digitalization of society, taking into account the role of the family and information security challenges. The essence of information and digital competence has been defined and its main components have been identified: cognitive, operational, motivational and reflective.
It has been found that the age characteristics of children require special attention to the development of critical thinking, self-control and responsible behavior in the digital environment. The authors haev emphasized the important role of the family as the first social institution that forms basic digital skills, values, and attitudes in children. Attention has been focused on the need for active participation of parents in the process of digital education, as well as continuous improvement of their digital literacy in order to effectively support and protect children.
We have identified the main challenges to information security, such as: children’s vulnerability to threats in the digital space; lack of critical perception skills; lack of awareness of the risks of the online environment; difficulty in ensuring effective parental control; children’s reluctance to share problems; and the constant need to update children’s and parents’ knowledge of the safe usage of digital resources.
It has been concluded that the formation of children’s information and digital competence should take place in conditions of close cooperation between the family, educational institutions and society as a whole. An integrated approach will ensure that the younger generation develops the skills of safe, responsible and effective usage of digital technologies in the modern informational space.
