Abstract:
The article is devoted to academic entrepreneurship which is a vital aspect of modern higher education, requiring the readiness of scientific and pedagogical staff for its successful implementation. This readiness depends on key components, among which we distinguish: cognitive and activity-based. A clear understanding of these components fosters a structured approach to readiness, strengthening universities as innovation hubs and supporting faculty in entrepreneurial initiatives, ultimately contributing to the growth of knowledge-based economies. Based on the conducted analysis, we conclude that the cognitive component of scientific and pedagogical staff readiness for academic entrepreneurship represents a set of knowledge and cognitive abilities essential for integrating entrepreneurial activities into the university environment. This component encompasses entrepreneurial thinking, an understanding of universities’ role in economic development, technology transfer mechanisms, innovation ecosystems, project management principles, interdisciplinary collaboration, and effective communication, all of which are fundamental for fostering academic entrepreneurship.
The activity-based component of readiness for academic entrepreneurship should be understood as a set of practical skills, competencies, and abilities required to analyse the relationship between science, education, and economics, develop and implement innovative ideas according to business plans, overcome challenges, and establish effective teamwork for the successful realisation of entrepreneurial initiatives within the academic environment. Future research directions include the development of diagnostic tools, criteria, and indicators for assessing the level of scientific and pedagogical staff readiness for academic entrepreneurship development, with particular attention to its cognitive and activity-based components. This will provide a structured framework for evaluating and enhancing entrepreneurial preparedness in higher education institutions.
