Abstract:
The transformation of modern education is closely linked to its digitalization, which unlocks significant opportunities. These include ensuring access to quality education regardless of students’ location, fostering digital competencies among learners and educators, and leveraging innovative technologies such as virtual laboratories, STEM centers, and interactive platforms to personalize learning. Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, blockchain, and robotics are expected to enhance the efficiency of educational processes, integrate Ukrainian education into the global space, and prepare professionals for the labor market of the future.
It is noted that the use of digital technologies creates new opportunities for the educational process. Under the influence of digitalization, education undergoes transformation, which imposes new requirements not only on educators but also on students, school administrators, parents, and stakeholders. It has been determined that several of these attributes are cross-cutting and should be developed by all participants involved in the educational process. These include digital skills, digital literacy, critical thinking, communication skills, digital ethics and safety, and time management.
Challenges and negative effects associated with the implementation of digitalization in education have been highlighted. These include the low level of professional digital competence among educators and their reluctance or inability to integrate digital technologies into pedagogical practice, discomfort during adaptation to these technologies, potential technical difficulties, as well as psychological and physical health impacts on participants in the educational process. Other challenges include information overload and access to unreliable or inappropriate content.
It is emphasized that a balance must be maintained between the digital and physical worlds by fostering critical thinking and safe online behavior. Despite its advantages and drawbacks, digitalization is not merely a trend in the development of education – it is an essential necessity.
