Abstract:
The author of the article has raised the problem of evaluating the learning results of primary school students in the context of the implementation of the New Ukrainian School Concept. The author has analyzed the scientific literature on this issue and presented the regulatory framework that determines changes in approaches to evaluation. It has been found that data on student learning results is obtained through formative and summative assessment. Formative assessment is aimed not only at determining the level of students’ achievements, but also at stimulating their personal development, which is the basis for building an individual educational trajectory. Summative assessment, in its turn, focuses on correlating learning outcomes with the mandatory requirements set out in the State Standard of Primary Education and the educational program.
The author has also emphasized the transition from the point system to the usage of grades that express the evaluative judgment and the level of learning outcome. It has been established that the basis for formulating evaluative judgments is the indicative assessment framework and expected results, which are determined at the level of educational programs and meet the goals of the New Ukrainian School.
Attention has been focused on the importance of self-assessment and mutual assessment as processes that promote students’ reflection, help them better understand their strengths and weaknesses, and stimulate further self-improvement, active participation in the educational process, and the formation of key competencies.
It has been concluded that the assessment system in the New Ukrainian School contributes not only to recording students’ achievements, but also makes it possible to track their progress, increase motivation to learn, ensure individualization of the educational process, and create conditions for achieving better learning outcomes at each stage of student development.
