Fall 2020 Bands ensemble plan

For Fall 2020 Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band will each be offered in two Tracks: the "In-Person Track" and the "Virtual Track."

In-Person Track: consists of smaller groups that rehearse once or twice a week. Symphonic Band In-Person Track will rehearse on Wednesdays, 6-7:30, with occasional virtual instruction on Mondays, 6-7:30. Wind Ensemble In-Person Track will rehearse on Wednesdays, 4-5:50pm and Fridays 4-5:00pm, with occasional virtual instruction on Mondays, 4-5:50pm. All times are approximate. Start, end, and break times will vary to allow for appropriate safety procedures.
Virtual Track: consists of a smaller group or groups that meet online via zoom. Symphonic Band Virtual Track will meet during the regular schedule times on Mondays and Wednesday, from 6-7:30pm. Wind Ensemble Virtual Track will meet during the regular scheduled times on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays. Students who participate in the virtual track will experience the technical side of making virtual ensemble performance recordings, be given advice for making quality recordings, and participate in several "virtual" recording projects.

In addition:

Current UIC students have the option to take BOTH tracks of their assigned ensemble.
Community members may only participate in the virtual track due to policy regarding on campus Covid 19 testing.
A detailed rehearsal schedule will be sent out at the start of each week.
Participants in both tracks only attend the portions of rehearsal in which the piece or pieces you are assigned to are scheduled to rehearse.
Pep Band will be offered asynchronously remote and is open to all UIC students.

All Students: complete the audition intent form here. The information gathered from this form is crucial for finalizing plans for both tracks. Please complete this form as soon as you can.
Participants interested only in Symphonic Band: Will receive a .pdf containing music on Monday, August 24. Select any 16 measures of music from the piece and a Major Scale of your choice. Record a video of yourself performing both the excerpt and the scale and submit your video here. Submissions are due Friday, August 28 at 11:59pm.
Students interested in Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band: Find the appropriate audition materials for your instrument attached to this email. You must prepare all or a portion of each excerpt. Record a video recording of yourself playing through the excerpts in ONE take and submit your video here. Submissions are due Friday, August 28 at 11:59pm.

All participants who submit auditions videos will receive the audition results by email on Sunday, August 30, by 11:59pm. At that time, you will also receive a rehearsal schedule for the week of August 31, which will detail your rehearsal times for the week.
Auditions are intended to provide information needed to place students in the correct ensemble, assign parts appropriately, and program the best music for each ensemble and each track. Auditions are not intended to disclude anyone from participation in UIC Bands.
All students who wish to participate must be enrolled in either Wind Ensemble, MUS 151, CRN 12641 or Symphonic Band, MUS 151, CRN 37432. Students must adjust their enrollment to the correct ensemble upon the receipt of ensemble placement.
