Progress with Learning in Subject Areas
Progressing Well should be checked for ELLs, as appropriate with regard to their STEP
Decisions regarding the reporting of ELLs who may be experiencing difficulty should be made in consultation with the school principal, classroom teacher and an ESL/ELD teacher if needed.
If a student is demonstrating significant delays in acquiring both English language skills and academic development and has been receiving appropriate ESL or ELD support, Progressing With Difficulty may be used. If this box is checked, the parent/guardian must be contacted and involved prior to the Progress Report/Provincial Report Card being sent home. The programming for these students should be considered by the appropriate school team.
N.B. Progressing with Difficulty is used to indicate only if the student is not progressing well toward the achievement of their ESL modified curriculum expectations.
The top of the 2nd page of the Progress Report includes the ESL statement,
"Achievement is based on expectations modified from the curriculum expectations for the grade to support English language learning needs."
