Service Projects 2022

Riley Elementary has been highly impacted by the pandemic and loss of life. The school has been stretched thin meeting the needs of the community, faculty, and learners. This school year they lost an amazing second grade teacher to cancer three weeks after school start, and families have lost so much more. The faculty and community have been working through the grief and are creating an outdoor learning space that will be dedicated to Ms. Schroeder. She was passionate about diversity, teaching and the power of reading. The learning space has 4 components: 16 raised garden beds for sensory exploration and investigation, commercial picnic tables with umbrellas and sunshade, a walk and read books (laminated big books on the rod iron fence) and an outdoor lending library for reading in the garden. It would be wonderful to have Utah librarians help build the library for the new outdoor learning space.

You can help Riley Elementary in two ways:

  1. Bring a new or gently used book to add to the garden library:

  • Picture Books with Garden Themes

  • Informational Books on Gardens

  • Science Based Graphic Novels

  • Board and SEL Books

  • Big Books

These are just suggestions, and if you would like to, add a bookplate to your donation with your school name. Look for the donation collection near the registration table.

  1. We'll pass "the hat" around at lunch and collect cash to go towards materials. Or you can scan and donate!
