UDW Resource Center

The UDW Resource Center (UDWRC) is a workers center that provides organizing support, training and education, and the development of affordable housing with direct care workers and family child care providers in the public and private sectors throughout California.

Mission

The UDW Resource Center (UDWRC) is a new workers center that provides organizing support, training and education, and the development of affordable housing with home care workers and family child care providers in the public and private sectors throughout California. The UDWRC will be a space for these workers to organize themselves for better wages and working conditions, to change the care economy to benefit all Californians, and to organize for social, racial, and economic justice in dozens of counties throughout California, particularly in rural areas and small towns of the state. UDWRC believes in the power of workers to organize and be leaders in their workplaces and their communities.

Long-Term Supports & Services

This campaign is advocating for a public benefit that will allow older Californians and those with disabilities to receive the care they need and to stay in their homes, while also increasing wages and benefits for all home care workers, in the public and the private sectors.

Apprenticeship Program

UDWRC is working with family child care leaders in San Diego County to develop a pilot apprenticeship program to train new family child care providers who will gain hands-on learning experience as assistants while also learning in-classroom the knowledge needed to be an effective family child care provider.

Trainings

UDWRC is planning to provide free trainings for direct care workers to prepare them to improve their skills for their current jobs as well as to be prepared to move up their healthcare career ladder.

Home Care Worker-Owned Cooperative

UDWRC is in the early stages of exploring supporting home care workers to create and develop their own worker-owned cooperatives that could be unionized with UDW if they so choose.

UDWRC is also planning to provide services to care workers, including Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and English Language Learner classes.
