All Chromebook repairs begin with a visit to the library. The staff there will try to troubleshoot the issue while you wait and if needed, formally put the device in for a repair. If that is necessary, a replacement device will be issued. Turnaround time for repairs varies, but expect it to take a few months due to supply chain issues being experienced by our repair vendor.
Missing or damaged chargers/styluses are not covered by accidental damage insurance for staff or students.
Charger:
You don't need to purchase the particular charger linked above, it's just one that we can confidently recommend to our staff and students because it is a) much less expensive than OEM and b) purchased by many folks at UD, so reliability has been tested. However, any reliable 45W USBC charger that you find will work.
Stylus:
For Acer Spin 512 devices issued during 21-22, a replacement stylus can be purchased here or here or here or here (multiple options are provided to account for various vendor stock availability, current pricing and shipping time.)
For the “new in 2022-2023” Acer Spin devices, they aren't available for public purchase. You need to arrange for a replacement through our Technology Department. Please start with your building librarian to help facilitate this purchase.
For the Lenovo 500e devices, a replacement stylus can be purchased here. Pricing and availability fluctuate often so also check these options: Chromebookparts.com, Target, GlobalDirectParts, CDWG, TigerDirect and Walmart.
Lost Chromebook procedure:
Any unattended Chromebook in the building found by staff should be returned to the library. Students/families are responsible for the cost of replacement for lost or stolen devices as this is not covered by the accidental damage insurance (22-23 prices: Lenovo: $353, Acer 512 R851: $383 & Acer 512 R853: $413). These rates reflect the cost of the device itself, our management license and the accidental damage insurance associated with that device. A lost device must be reported by the student to the student’s building/grade-level administrator immediately to initiate the recovery process. Upper Dublin is not able to geolocate lost devices. UD staff: for the detailed procedure once a device has been reported to admin, click here and read the section, "Lost/stolen Chromebooks."
