Bibliography

Daniel Friel is an Associate Professor at the University of San Andrés in Buenos Aires, Argentina.  He has a PhD in Political Science from the New School for Social Research in New York, a M.A. in Political Theory from the Ohio State University, and a B.A. in International Studies from the University of Dayton.  He has taught classes at universities such as New York University, ESCP in Paris, and Beirut Arab University in Lebanon.  He was a Sonoco Visiting Fellow in International Business at the University of South Carolina in January and February of 2023.   He has obtained scholarships from the Deutsche Academische Austausch Dienst (DAAD) and the Social Science Research Council. Together with two other professors at Universidad de San Andrés he won a grant from the InterAmerican Development Bank to study success export sectors in Argentina.

He recently published an Element (short book) on the varieties of capitalism with Cambridge University Press.   He has published numerous papers in prestigious international journals such as Journal of Development Economics, Human Relations, Perspectives, and the Journal of International Management.  He has also published two cases with IVEY publishing, both of which can be found on the website of Harvard Business Publishing. His most recent case examines the decision of a commercial airline in Lebanon to fly over Syria during the war in that country. He has worked as a consultant for Prudential Securities, Swiss Consulting Group, and Austral Group, helping international companies adapt their policies and practices to the cultural and institutional differences in the countries in which they operate.  He has presented his work at major business conferences in Latin America, the United States, Europe and the Middle East.
